First, Do You Even Qualify?
This is the main part of the requirements for NDDC Scholarship for Local Masters Degree in Nigeria. It is also where most Nigerians miss this opportunity.
You must be from the Nigeria Region. You would need a Local Government Identification Letter from your Local Government of origin. No letter, no application.
You must not be older than 40.
You are a Second Class Lower graduate. This is not a scholarship for a Third Class graduate, look for another scholarship.
HND holders must have Upper Credit in their HND certificate and also have a PGD (where required) in a relevant field.
A trick in the advertisement: application is for local masters’ scholarship to fund already admitted masters’ degree holders.
NYSC Discharge or Exemption Certificate. Valid one.

Recent passport photograph, Local Government Identification Letter, master’s admission letter, academic certificates, NYSC Discharge or Exemption Certificate, birth certificate or statutory declaration of age, NIN slip.
That’s the list. Make sure your names match across every document. A mismatch on one paper can end your application quietly, nobody will call you to explain.
How To Apply
Go to the NDDC portal. Fill the form. Upload everything. Submit. Copy your registration number, print your acknowledgement slip.
Do it now, not on 7 November. The portal gets crowded near deadlines and people start sending messages about “the site is not opening.” Don’t be that person.
What Happens After You Apply
There’s a screening stage, then a Computer-Based Test. The CBT holds in Akwa Ibom, Edo, or Rivers, you pick your zone when you register.
You need 70% minimum to move forward. Scoring 70% is not the same as getting the scholarship. It just means they’ll look at you again.
After that comes an oral interview for some candidates, then verification, your school, your LGA, your CDC if it applies.
One thing nobody tells applicants, NDDC does not send rejection letters. If you don’t hear from them, that’s your answer.
Small Things That Decide Big Outcomes
Oil producing host communities get preference. That’s in the framework, not a rumour.
You cannot defer, change school, or change course after you win it. Not unless the Commission approves, and they rarely do.
Don’t forge anything. They verify.
